Rigged and Ready

At the start of this season, we caught up with Adam Green as he ran through his Topper setup, sharing his rigging tips to help fellow sailors get to the front of the fleet. At the time, Adam was coming off an incredible 2025: 5th at the World Championships, 3rd at the British Nationals, and the Irish Champion title to his name.

It turns out that was just the beginning.

The Title Run

Adam Green has capped an extraordinary season by becoming the first Irish sailor to win the overall GBR Topper National Series Championship, a title decided across a demanding run of events around the UK throughout the 2025/26 season.

The campaign got off to a dramatic start at Draycote Water, where Adam battled through the disruption of Storm Amy and a delayed flight just to make the start line. Once racing got underway, he claimed his first National Series race win of the season and finished the event 2nd overall.

A 6th-place finish followed at Weymouth, before a clash with another major event in Ireland forced him to miss the third round of the series. Adam returned to form at Hayling Island, taking two more race wins and another 2nd-place overall finish to keep his title challenge firmly alive.

The series came down to the final weekend at Grafham Water, where a 2nd-place finish was enough to secure the overall championship, and with it, a place in NI sailing history.

“I’m incredibly proud to become the first Irish sailor to win the overall GBR Topper National Series Championship,” Adam said.

Not a Solo Effort

Behind every result was a season of early starts, long journeys, and a strong support network. Adam credited NI Sailing Team coaches Luke and Hammy, and Irish Sailing’s Liam Glynn, for the coaching and winter training that shaped his season, along with Russ at Topper Sailboats for keeping his boat race-ready throughout the year.

His school and sponsors, including Rooster, Sailing Chandlery, Topper Sailboats, ABC Council, Mary Peters Trust, and RYA Northern Ireland, also played their part in making the season possible, alongside the unwavering support of his family.

“This achievement definitely wasn’t earned alone,” Adam added.

What’s Next

Adam’s success is a powerful example of what the NIST programme sets out to deliver, supporting NI’s most talented young sailors as they step up and compete at the highest level.
Next up: the Topper World Championships. Adam heads there as GBR National Series Champion, with his sights firmly set on improving on last year’s 5th-place finish. He won’t be going alone, with the NI Sailing Team heading out in force.
