Learning from the best
Erin and Ellen worked through how to dial in a 29er setup for practical sailing, covering the adjustments that make a real difference once you’re on the water. The session was built around learning by doing, and the young sailors had plenty of chances to ask questions of two sailors who have been exactly where they are now.
It’s experience worth sharing. Erin and Ellen won bronze at the 49erFX U23 World Championships in Copenhagen last year and have since moved up to the Irish Sailing Senior Squad, where they are building towards LA2028.
Building the double-handed pathway
The 29er squad is a new addition to the NI Sailing Team this season, supported by a 29er purchased by RYA NI. It gives sailors coming out of single-handed classes like the Topper and ILCA a supported route into high-performance skiff sailing. Sessions like this one give them a direct link to sailors further along the same pathway and a chance to ask loads of questions too!

Support Erin and Ellen’s journey to LA
Erin and Ellen are fundraising for their LA2028 campaign. Every contribution helps cover training, travel and equipment as they take on the senior 49erFX circuit.
Thank you to Ballyholme Yacht Club for hosting, and to Erin and Ellen for giving up their time.
