Northern Ireland Sailing Team members Bobby Driscoll, Daniel Palmer and Cormac Byrne have just finished competing at the ILCA 6 Youth European Championships in Vilamoura, Portugal.

The event, held between the 12th and 19th of April, played host to some of the best youth ILCA 6 sailors in the world and was a fantastic opportunity the sailors to put their learnings from a hard winter’s training into practice.

Bobby Driscoll, finished 56th (the highest placed Irish boy), Daniel Palmer finished 122nd and Cormac Byrne finished 176th in the 258 boat fleet.

For each of the sailors, their performances represent an improvement an improvement from the same event last year which was hosted at Ballyholme Yacht Club in July.

Cormac, Daniel and Bobby will be back in action at the Irish Youth Nationals which will be hosted between the 24th and 27th of April in the Royal St. George Yacht Club in Dublin.

Last year, Bobby Driscoll won this competition with a dominant display in strong wind conditions, but competition will be stiff among some of the best sailors in Ireland.

There will be a number of other members of the Northern Irish Sailing Team competing at the Irish Youth Nationals. You can read more about them here.
