Oisín McClelland and Bobby Driscoll both flew the flag for the Northern Irish Sailing Team over the weekend in what was an intense weekend of international racing.
Northern Ireland Sailing Team member Bobby Driscoll, who hails from Ballyholme Yacht Club and Royal North of Ireland Yacht Club, was competing in the ILCA 6 class at ‘Origenes Comunitat Olympic Week’ in Valencia and placed 13th overall after a 7 race series.
Travelling to this regatta will have been a useful learning experience for Bobby as a busy summer of racing edges closer. Not only was he racing against a strong field of international racers, but he demonstrated his mental strength by revering from a ‘U-Flag’ in race 2.

Meanwhile, Northern Ireland Sailing Team alumni sailor Oisín McClelland, from Donaghadee Sailing Club, was competing in the 44-Cup on board Aleph Racing.

The 32-year-old offside trimmer was defending his title from last year and put in a strong showing in the opening leg of the event, placing 2nd.
In the 9-race series, Aleph were hot on the heels of event winners ‘Charisma’, winning 3 of the races. With four legs to go in the 44-Cup, Aleph are firmly in the hunt for the overall title and will be looking to build on their strong start.
