A number of Northern Irish Sailing Team sailors were in action at the recent Leinster Championships, hosted at the National Yacht Club in Dún Laoghaire

The event, which took place on 26 and 27 July, saw Zoe Whitford, George Doig, Autumn Halliday and Freddie Doig take part in the ILCA 6 class. Tom Coulter and Daniel Palmer competed in the ILCA 7 class.

There were a number of notable performances from NI Sailing Team athletes in both the ILCA 6 class and in the ILCA 7 class. Zoe Whitford was 1st overall in the ILCA 6 class, Tom Coulter placed 2nd in the ILCA 7 class and Daniel Palmer finished 4th overall and 1st youth in the ILCA 7 class.

This was Daniel’s first competition in the ILCA 7 and was a great start to his transition from the ILCA 6 class.

On top of the current NI Sailing Team athletes which took part, some former NI Sailing Team Athletes took part in the ILCA 7 class.

Ballyholme Yacht Club’s Liam Glynn finished 3rd in the ILCA 7 class. This was another great performance from Liam in what has been a stellar season for him where he has finished 3rd at the Team Racing World Championships and 2nd at the Wilson Trophy.

On top of this, the NI Sailing Team Strength and Conditioning Coach, Chris Penney, ‘put down the bar barbell’ for a weekend and hopped back in his ILCA 7 to finish in an impressive 9th place.

Many of the NI Sailing Team ILCA sailors will be back in action on 13 and 14 September when the John Minnis Youth Championships take place at Ballyholme Yacht Club.
