Northern Irish Sailing Team sailors capped off an excellent season with some top-quality performances at the Topper Northern Championships.

The event, hosted at Quoile Yacht Club on 23 and 24 August, had 60 competitors across two fleets, with tight competition in shifty winds over the two days.

In addition to the racing, former Northern Ireland Sailing Team member Liam Glynn, also ran open training on 22 August which allowed sailors to progress their skills and get to know the venue before racing.

Adam Green finished as first overall in convincing fashion. None of the races which he counted as part of his overall score were lower than first, which is a continuation of Adam’s recent form where he finished 5th in the world championships https://nisailingteam.co.uk/northern-ireland-sailing-team-topper-world-championships/ and 3rd in the British Nationals https://nisailingteam.co.uk/topper-british-nationals/

Leo West-Hurst also put in a strong performance and finished as third junior male, putting in a consistent series.

Full NI sailing team results were as follows:

  • Adam Green 1st overall- 1st junior boy
  • Leo West-Hurst- 5th overall- 3rd junior boy
  • Ben McCaldin 6th overall- 4th junior boy
  • James Eadie 10th overall- 2nd youth boy
  • Hugh Hutchinson- 18th overall- 12th junior boy
  • Charlie Haslett- 21st overall- 14th junior boy
  • Alex Eadie- 10th female (34th overall)

Many of the Topper sailors competing at the Topper Northern Championships will also be in action at the John Minnis Youth Championships which will be hosted at Ballyholme Yacht Club on 13 and 14 September.

This is the largest multi-class annual sailing competition in Northern Ireland and it promises to be a fantastic competition.
