It was another busy weekend on the water for Northern Ireland Sailing Team sailors, with podium finishes, valuable fleet experience and strong championship performances across multiple events in Ireland and the UK.

Strong Start at the Topper Traveller Series

The first Topper Traveller Series event of the season took place at County Antrim Yacht Club, with Northern Ireland Sailing Team sailors making an immediate impact on home waters.

In the Full Sail 5.3 fleet, the team dominated the leaderboard with Adam Green taking the win, closely followed by Ben McCaldin in second.

Other strong performances included Edward Reynolds in 5th, James Westhead in 7th, Emma Westhead in 8th overall and 2nd Female, Penny Doig in 9th overall and 1st Junior Female, Max Boyd in 10th and Hugh Hutchinson in 11th.

In the 4.2 fleet, Daniel Long secured an excellent 2nd place.

A brilliant opening event to the Traveller season and an encouraging sign of the strength in depth across the Topper squad.

Valuable Experience at the 29er / 49er Eastern Championships

At the 29er and 49er Eastern Championships, Charlotte Eadie secured 3rd place while crewing for Lauren Callaghan.

Meanwhile, Emily Ridout and Annabel Ridout took part on Saturday to gain valuable fleet experience and spend time meeting others in the class, before returning home to focus on exams.

Campbell College Finish 11th at National Championships

Campbell College represented Northern Ireland at the Irish Schools Sailing National Team Racing Championship after qualifying through their performance at the Leinsters.

The team finished 11th out of 26 teams overall.

After sitting higher up the leaderboard on Saturday, the team faced increasingly tough competition on Sunday as racing progressed into the latter stages against some of the country’s strongest school teams.

A fantastic achievement and a valuable learning experience at national level.
