NI Sailing Team October Results: A Month of Standout Performances
The NI Sailing Team Performance Update for October brings plenty to celebrate, with Northern Ireland sailors delivering strong results and valuable experience at international regattas. From youth classes to senior fleets, the team has shown skill, resilience, and progress as they continue to grow through the performance pathway.
Gold for Emily and Annabel at the RS Feva Europeans
Emily and Annabel Ridout from Ballyholme Yacht Club have rounded off their season in style, taking Gold at the RS Feva European Championships in Italy.
The pair sailed consistently well throughout, keeping their nerve in a tough fleet and finishing on top after a strong series. The win follows their earlier success as Irish National Champions: a fantastic double for the young sailors.
“Emily and Annabel have worked incredibly hard this season,” said Performance Manager Andrew Baker. “Their focus and drive have really paid off, and it’s great to see their success recognised internationally.”
Erin and Ellen Impress at the 49erFX Worlds
Erin and Ellen wrapped up their first 49erFX World Championships in Cagliari, Italy: an intense week of highs, lows, and learning for the young pair.
Their week was demanding and tested skill, resilience, and teamwork in challenging conditions.. Writing after the event, the pair shared:
“Many up and down races, plenty of coffee and croissants, and a ripped kite later – that’s a wrap on our first senior world championships. Though it wasn’t the result we were hoping for, we’re taking away so many valuable lessons and are excited to keep pushing forwards!”
The event brought tough conditions and a highly competitive fleet, but Erin and Ellen showed real grit, scoring two top-three finishes while gaining valuable experience among the world’s best 49erFX sailors.
Performance Manager Andrew Baker praised the duo’s attitude:
“Stepping into senior-level competition is a huge milestone. Erin and Ellen handled it with maturity and determination, this experience will be a big part of their development in the seasons ahead.”
